The Liberty girls’ varsity volleyball team captured a dominant win in their first regular season home game against Gahanna Lincoln High School. The Patriots won in straight sets, winning 25-14, 25-12, and 25-13. The Patriots lost to the Lions last year in the state playoffs, yet made a statement this year with a commanding win.

Senior libero Maile Steckelberg noted, “We all worked together and played amazing…We really stepped up [as a team] tonight.”

Steckelberg led the team in digs and service aces.  Steckelberg’s statements are well supported based off of the team’s performance. Sophomore Logan Flaugh led the team with 24 assists, as well as coming second in digs with ten. Steckelberg had 21 digs. The team had 36 kills in total, eight coming from Senior Taylor Karlo and Junior Raegan Rosi, with an additional seven coming from Junior Claranne Fetcher and Senior Abby Erickson contributing five. Fetcher also led in serving percentage (100%) along with Juniors Brooke Hammons, Julia Gomez, Sydney Novy, and Sophomore Logan Flaugh. In total, Liberty had a 93.6% serve completion compared to a 84.6% completion from Gahanna.

Liberty’s next game is at Hilliard Davidson on Aug. 28 in the main gym. The game starts around 7 p.m. Come support Liberty Volleyball!
