The day had arrived. It was my first homecoming dance. I didn’t know what to expect. My sister was at homecoming before. She went to a lot of dances. I took dance when I was little. I had a little bit of experience dancing because one time I went to a show with my seventh grade class.

The hallways were decorated with Hollywood, Paris and London themes. The aux gym was full of bright lights and well decorated that night. Before the dance, Mrs. Knowlton said, “I’ll get lost in the hallways when they take the decorations down.”

My friends and I met my teacher for pictures and dinner. There was a park near the restaurant, and we took the pictures there. The adults took some pictures, including my mother. We took group photos. Sometimes I took photos with only one person. I saw my teacher and gave her a big hug.

As we were taking pictures, my mom suddenly realized that we forgot the tickets.

“That’s okay,” Mrs. d’Amato said.

Next, we ate dinner at Bogey Inn. I mentioned several times that our food was taking a while to get to the table. My friend Abbie told me several times that it would come soon.

“The football game is interesting. Do you think so?” I asked Abbie. The Ohio State game was on and with it being my home team, I was very excited. Abbie agreed as well.

We were reading the menu to pass the time as we were waiting for our food.

“How long have we been here?” I asked Abbie.

“We’ve been here for thirty minutes. It’s not that long,” Abbie said.

“What time is it?” I asked. Abbie answered that it was 7:29 p.m.

Finally, our food arrived.

“Bella! Guess what? Our food is here,” Abbie said.

We ate our food, and I was the first one done.

“Are you done yet?” I asked.

“Yes, I’m done,” Abbie responded.

It was almost time to go. The dance was the last event.

My teacher, Mrs. d’Amato, and I walked into the gym to see if any kids were dancing. The gym was completely empty because everyone was at the photo booth. We decided to join them and get some photos as well.

My bunny ears I was wearing fell off. Mrs. d’Amato and I laughed a lot.

I got a picture with my friends. Then, we went back into the gym. Kids were starting to dance, and I started dancing as well. I even threw in a few dance moves I learned in chorus at my old school. I spun around. I felt like a child taking dance lessons again.

Then came the slow song – my favorite part. I danced with my friend Jinsi. I was like the Energizer bunny, going on and on without stopping. The song was called “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran. I loved it.

My friend Elizabeth and I took some pictures. At one point, I stopped dancing to take a bathroom break. We went to the bathroom when a song my sister loved started playing.

“Ohio State is losing. My husband is going to be so mad,” Mrs. d’Amato groaned as we were coming back from the bathroom. “Don’t tell him I said that.”

We went back into the gym. My mother wanted to pick me up at 9:30 p.m. They played the Ohio State game at the dance so anyone who was interested could watch. There was also a photo booth, so everyone could take photos with their friends.

Overall, my first dance was very exciting and fun. I loved dancing and being my energetic self. The songs were great.
